Design and Construction Standards

As Developers, Contractors and Strathcona County staff design and build new infrastructure (roads, waterlines, etc.) it is important that consistent and acceptable standards are applied.

Previously these standards were contained in several documents, written at different times and in different styles, making the process inefficient. A project to "modernize" our Engineering Standards began about a year ago. Based on input from stakeholders, along the way, the key documents that comprise our standards [Engineering Servicing Standards-Urban Service Area (2005), Engineering Servicing Standards-Rural Service Area (2007), Open Space Development Standards (2006), Standard Documents (2008), and CAD Standards] have now been amalgamated and re-formatted.

New amalgamated document

On December 13, 2011, Strathcona County Council approved the new amalgamated document. It is now available in two formats:

  1.  By way of a free download in PDF format.
    Design and Construction Standards - December 2011 (30.7 MB)
  2. As a hardcopy for purchase from the Capital Planning and Construction Department ($131.25 including G.S.T.) which includes the drawing details in a DWF format.
