Changes to Centre in the Park public parking
June 3, 2011
To address feedback from Community Centre users, County Council on April 26 approved increasing the number of subsidized, no charge, parking stalls in the Centre in the Park north outdoor parking lot to 50 stalls from 20. Between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, this public parking area has a two-hour time limit to create turn over of stalls. Another change to parking included adding three code compliant handicap parking stalls to increase the number of accessibility stalls to six in the underground Community Centre parkade.
Modifications to accommodate this increased public parking are near completion. Enforcement of all parking areas in Centre in the Park is in effect in accordance with Parking Bylaw 9-2011.
“From its conception, Centre in the Park’s vision has been to create a walkable, pedestrian-oriented area in support of more sustainable development,” says Mayor Linda Osinchuk. “With the Community Centre now in full use, we are trying to find the right balance in managing peak and lower parking demand periods. We trust additional public parking in the north lot will satisfy user needs. Also, in the balance, Council recognizes providing no charge parking has a value.”
Centre in the Park includes no charge street and outdoor surface lot parking, and paid underground parking at the Community Centre. Details on public parking areas, time limits and rates are available online, or by calling 780-464-8403.
Centre in the Park is a multi-use area being developed in Sherwood Park. It combines municipal services, local government, residences, retail services and inviting public spaces.
