Strathcona County experiences double-digit growth

February 9, 2012

The numbers are in and it’s good news for Strathcona County. Based on the rankings for the top 25 municipalities across Alberta, Strathcona County is now the third largest municipality after Edmonton and Calgary.

Strathcona County’s population, as reported in the 2011 Federal Census just released, is 92,490 – 64,733 living in Sherwood Park; 27,757 in rural Strathcona. This is a 12.1 per cent increase over the past five years. In comparison, Canada’s overall growth during the same period was 5.9 per cent; Alberta 10.8 per cent; Calgary 10.9 per cent, and Edmonton 11.2 per cent.

“This is a good news story for Strathcona County,” says Mayor Linda Osinchuk. “We have attracted new residents and quality retail investment, and look forward to new industrial development as well.

“In turn, this growth fuels innovative programming, and supports high quality services and infrastructure. Strathcona County is quickly emerging as an economic engine in the region and in Alberta.”
