Getting with the Green Routine just got easier! A new app launches for iPhones

Strathcona County residents have done a great job adopting the Green Routine since it was launched four years ago. An iPhone application is now available that allows easier access to information, updates and calendaring.
“The Green Routine supports the philosophy that ‘by each of us making a small change, together we can make a big difference’,” says Mayor Linda Osinchuk. “We hope tools such as this make it easier for residents to be involved in the program and support the County’s goal of environmental excellence.”
The app is loaded with many features. Residents can:
- set waste collection day and special event reminders
- search the A-Z list
- find a reusable item donation centre
- locate a recycling station
- read the Green Routine guide
- check the waste collection calendar
- contact the Utilities department
- receive up-to-date service disruption notifications
“As this is our first custom built app, it is a work in progress,” says Elizabeth Tadman, Communications and Marketing Specialist for Utilities. “Regular updates will be done to the app to make it is as user friendly as possible. Be sure to watch for these updates as we work to refine it.”
Based on statistics that show iOS devices, such as iPhones, iPads, and iPods, account for 82 per cent of all mobile device traffic to Strathcona County’s website it was decided to launch the app on this platform. Almost all the features available in the app are accessible on the County’s website for those without an iPhone. Should there be a drastic increase in traffic from other devices or a significant demand for an Android or Blackberry version of the app, the Utilities department will consider rolling it out to other platforms.
To download the free app, residents can go to the App Store and search for “Strathcona County Green Routine”.
