Sports and Recreation - Development

  • Community Service
    Recognizes residents for outstanding achievements or contributions that have improved the quality of life for others.

These may include:

  • volunteerism
  • good citizenship
  • acts of heroism or bravery
  • humanitarian efforts
  • environmental protection
  • Arts, Culture and Heritage

    Recognizes residents for outstanding achievement or contribution in literary, visual, performing, film and video arts, or in perserving and sharing local culture and history. 

  • Professional Achievement

    Recognizes residents for outstanding achievements or contributions in a professional capacity. 

    Refers to all occupations, professions or business pursuits for which someone receives a wage or other compensation. Note: Many professions have their own recognition programs. The Pride of Strathcona award is not intended to duplicate these.

  • Youth

    Recognizes individual youth (21 years or younger) who have brought recognition to Strathcona County or improved our quality of life. The focus is on volunteer and community contributions, not academic achievement.  

  • Seniors 

    Recognizes individual seniors (65 years and better) who have brought recognition to Strathcona County or improved our quality of life. The focus is on volunteer and community contributions

  • Sports and Recreation - Athletic Achievement

    Recognizes County athletes for outstanding achievement in competition at a national or international level.

    Awards will be granted to athletes who achieve first-, second- or third-place standing at a national or international competition that took place within 13 months of the nomination deadline (January to January).

National refers to competitions or championships that involve Alberta and at least one other province or territory.
International refers to competitions that involve Canada and at least one other country.

Nominations must include the name of the event, class or division, date, location and organizing body.

  • Sports and Recreation - Development

    Recognizes individuals who have made significant contributions to recreation and sports as a leader, mentor or volunteer, fostering healthy life skills and good sportsmanship.

Award recipients may be recognized for a single action, or for a contribution or achievement over an extended period of time (exception Athletic Achievement). Nominees chosen are likely to have made an achievement or contribution of significant credit to Strathcona County and its residents, or demonstrate outstanding and exceptional effort, dedication or achievement.

The Mayor's Award

Recognizes one nominee with the highest civic recognition from Strathcona County.

One nominee among all those nominated will be chosen to receive the Mayor's Award. The Mayor's Award recipient is likely to have made an achievement or contribution of a lasting nature, or attained a level of excellence recognized beyond Strathcona County.
