Business attraction, retention and expansion 

Strathcona County Economic Development and Tourism (EDT) strives to support a strong, diversified and sustainable economy while balancing social responsibility and environmental stewardship. The department works towards the growth of the community through business attraction, retention and expansion.

Guiding documents

Through the leadership of Council and Executive Team, the following documents guide the work of the EDT department:

Objectives

  • Support local economic growth and diversification
  • Attract business development and investment to Strathcona County, particularly in target industries 
  • Retain existing businesses and facilitate business expansion
  • Promote business start-ups and small business development through consultations and community outreach programs
  • Supply market research and economic data for businesses and individuals
  • Maintain an inventory of businesses, lease space and available land in Strathcona County
  • Market the community's key assets regionally and globally
  • Support the local tourism industry
  • Position Strathcona County as a regional leader through strategic associations, partnerships and stakeholder consultations  

Code of Ethics

Strathcona County Economic Development and Tourism staff are dedicated to providing competent and ethical service to the communities they serve in the field of economic and community development. They strive to provide accurate and reliable information to the business community. They are committed to the economic, social and environmental well being of the community by the promotion of development initiatives in keeping with these principles. They are dedicated to the promotion of high professional and ethical standards in all their activities.

Staff will

  • Serve the public interest
  • Act in a manner that upholds the reputation of Stathcona County and the economic development profession
  • Provide professional and competent service, in keeping with the high standards set out by the Economic Development Association of Canada (l’Association canadienne de développement économique)
  • Maintain the spirit of fairness in competition and eradicate all forms of deception that violate that spirit
  • Hold themselves free of interest, influence or relationship that can impair professional judgement or objectivity
  • Refrain from exploiting the information obtained through the course of professional duties to their own advantage
  • Keep in confidence the affairs of any client, colleague or organization and shall not disclose confidential information obtained in the course of professional activities
  • Conduct and share research in economic development and methodology
  • Treat all clients with due respect and consideration
