Fire

A fire ban has been declared for Strathcona County, effective noon on May 7. No outdoor fires are permitted until further notice. This applies to all rural areas, hamlets and Sherwood Park.

Strathcona County is a specialized municipality as we have both rural and urban interface and large industry within our boundaries. This diversity makes it necessary for fire crews to be trained and ready to respond to a wide variety of situations.

All operations staff are cross trained and qualified in both firefighting/rescue and emergency medical response. Strathcona County Emergency Services boasts an integrated and seamless emergency response service.

There are currently six Fire Stations in Strathcona County: four full-time stations (1, 4, 5 and 6) and two part-time stations (Station 2 in South Cooking Lake and Station 3 in Ardrossan). In 2009, Council approved a fourth full-time station; Fire Station #6 to be built in Sherwood Park, with its opening scheduled for 2013.
