Outdoor Activities
Strathcona County offers many opportunities to be active outdoors.
Sports fields and diamonds
There are many places to play soccer, football, softball and baseball.
Parks and playgrounds
A number of playgrounds and recreation centres are connected through a multi-use trail system throughout the community. There are a variety of unique playgrounds to choose from!
Outdoor skating
There are many outdoor rinks including some with rink boards, lights and change facilities. These facilities provide the perfect setting for practicing your hockey or ringette skills outdoors.
Tobogganing
A great family activity, especially on those perfect winter days. Enjoy safe sledding in your neighbourhood.
Cross country skiing
The Strathcona Wilderness Centre, located just 20 minutes east of Sherwood Park, is a full-service cross country ski centre complete with equipment rentals and groomed trails.
Beat the heat in the summer and enjoy the water at a local spray deck. (Open July and August)
Courts
Tennis, volleyball and basketball provide great opportunities for friends to get together for some fun and fitness.
- Basketball courts are located in Brentwood Park, Clover Bar School, Jean Vanier School, McGhan Park, Mills Haven School, Trillium Centre, Salisbury Athletic Park, Sherwood Heights Park, Strathcona Athletic Park and Village Sports Grounds.
- Sand volleyball courts are located at Broadmoor Lake Park, McGhan Park, Trillium Centre and Sherwood Heights Park.
- Tennis courts are located at Clover Bar School, Jean Vanier School, Kinsmen/Westboro Park and McGhan Park.
Athletic Tracks
Two outdoor tracks can be found in Sherwood Park. Salisbury Athletic Park adjacent to Broadmoor Lake is a shale track. An athletic track complete with change facilities is located at the Strathcona Athletic Park next to Bev Facey Composite High School.
