In 1987, Strathcona County Council approved the creation of the Permanent Art Collection to encourage and support local artists.
The members of the Permanent Art Collection Committee which are appointed by Council, are responsible for collecting artwork from local artists and displaying the artworks in County owned buildings and properties where possible and practical.
Presently, the Collection houses over 130 artworks in three groupings:
The Permanent Collection
This collection was originally created to house artworks purchased from local adult artists through the County's Annual Art Acquisition Program.
Permanent Collection A-G
Permanent Collection H-M
Permanent Collection N-Z
2009 Art Acquisition
Mayors' Collection
The Mayors' Collection was established in 1988 to house donated artworks.
Youth Collection
The Youth Collection, was created in 1999, in recognition of the 2000 Alberta Winter Games, and to acknowledge the significance of providing youth a venue to creatively express themselves and to begin cultivating the next generation of visual artists.
On occasion the committee will pursue Major Public Art Commissions projects. Significantly larger in scale, these projects typically involve financial support and partnerships from various local, provincial and federal organizations.
