Collection trucks

There are several different trucks that are used to collect waste for the Green Routine in Strathcona County.

Hamlets

In the hamlets, there are automated trucks for collecting roll-out carts and a split-stream truck to collect recycling. The split-stream recycling truck has two different compartments for separating the two different types of recyclable materials, paper and containers. It may look like the operator is throwing the paper and containers into the same area but they are actually being separated. Having a split-stream truck is more economical and efficient.

Inside the split-stream truck containers and paper are separated into different compartments

Rural Strathcona County

To help reduce the number of trucks required to drive through the rural area of Strathcona County, only one truck is used for collection. This special semi-automated truck uses a three-split stream separator. Container recycling and organic/waste goes into the same area of the truck, however they are dumped into different slots (hoppers) where the materials are kept separate.
