Compostable bags

Residents are not required to use compostable bags for organics - this is your choice. Organic materials can be placed directly into the green catcher (small green organics container) and the large organics roll-out cart. However, if you wish to line your green catcher with a bag, a compostable bag must be used.

Compostable bags are made from a food by-product such as corn starch and can break down easily. If you decide to use a bag, it is important to use only compostable bags, not plastic bags or biodegradable bags. Biodegradable bags contain petroleum products which contaminate the composting process. Biodegradable bags can be used for waste in your black waste cart.

You can also use newspaper to line your green catcher. If you have a particularly wet organic, wrap it in a newspaper or paper towel to help absorb the liquids.
