Biography
Mayor Linda Osinchuk is the current Mayor of Strathcona County. She was elected as Mayor of Strathcona County in October 2010. She has served Strathcona County with energy and dedication in many capacities. She started her public service career as an Elk Island Catholic School Board Trustee in 2001 for a period of 3 years. From then she was chosen to represent Ward 3 as a Councillor in 2004 and again in 2007.
Mayor Osinchuk's desire to serve and help others developed from a very young age. Mayor Linda, as she likes to be called, has prided herself in helping others by speaking up for those who may not be able to speak for themselves. After growing up on a farm as the middle child in a family of 8 children, Mayor Linda graduated with a registered nursing diploma from Saskatoon, Saskatchewan. After graduation, she moved to Alberta where she worked in several hospitals as a nurse and team leader including the Royal Alexandra Hospital, the University of Alberta Hospital, the Lethbridge Regional Hospital, and the Lethbridge Cancer Clinic.
Mayor Linda is a strong advocate for women in politics. Mayor Osinchuk is the previous Chair of the Women in Municipal Politics committee (Federation of Canadian Municipalities). She is a regular contributing writer for Womanition Magazine, and has participated as a panelist on the Young Women in Politics Speakers Panel for the Experiences program. She believes strongly in mentoring young men and women and feels that is important to empower their self-worth.
Mayor Osinchuk is presently the Chair of the Alberta's Industrial Heartland Association. Her interesting present and past involvements include being a member of and sitting on a variety of committees such as:
- Past Chair of the Strathcona County Community Health Council
- Member of Capital Region Board, Strathcona County Representative
- Past Chair of ASBABE (Alberta School Board for Bilingual Education).
- Past President of BUCPS (Bilingual Ukrainian Catholic Parent Society).
- Regional champion FCM (Federation of Canadian Municipality)
supporting and mentoring women in municipal politics and leadership
roles. - Co-founder and Past-President of St. Sophia Ukrainian Catholic Parish,
Sherwood Park. - Past-President, Sherwood Park Rotary Club
Mayor Osinchuk has been married to Dr. Jim Osinchuk for 34 years. They have four children; Erin (Jorge), Adam, Evan and Alix. Mayor Osinchuk enjoys many sports, going to the gym, entertaining friends and gardening.
